Roof Repair in Hampstead

A leaking or damaged roof needs an accurate diagnosis, not a quick patch that fails in the next storm. Water often shows up metres from where it gets in, so the first job on any roof repair is to find the real source.

We photograph the problem, explain what it means and carry out the repair properly. You are never told a repair is needed without being shown why.

Roof repairs we carry out

  • Tile and slate repair and replacement
  • Ridge and hip tile repairs
  • Flashing repair and replacement
  • Felt and underlay repairs
  • Flat roof repairs
  • Leak source diagnosis and repair

Emergency Roof Repair

If tiles have come off in high winds or water is coming through a ceiling, call 07752 979023. The phone is the quickest way to reach us. We will ask a few questions, tell you honestly when we can get to you, and explain what to do until then.

The first aim of an emergency roof repair is to stop more water getting in. Once the roof is safe and dry, we show you what failed and quote for the lasting repair.

While you wait for the roofer

  • Catch the water and move furniture and valuables
  • Turn off electrics near the leak if it is safe to do so
  • Photograph the damage for your insurer
  • Stay off the roof and away from loose tiles

Roof Replacement

Every roof reaches the end of its serviceable life eventually. When repairs keep coming back, the slates are slipping across whole slopes or the felt beneath has perished, replacing the roof is the right investment.

Every roof replacement starts with an honest assessment of whether it is really needed. We will not recommend a new roof if repairs can effectively extend the life of the existing one. Our reputation rests on the right advice, not the most expensive advice.

What a roof replacement involves

  • An assessment of the existing roof and its structure
  • A written, itemised quote with the materials specified
  • Stripping the old covering, felt and battens
  • New underlay, battens, tiles or slates, ridges and hips
  • New lead work and flashings where needed

New Roof and Roof Installation

Roof HQ installs new roofs for homes and commercial properties: pitched roofs in tile and slate, and flat roofs in EPDM and GRP. That covers full re-roofs, new roofs on extensions and the roof installation on a new building.

All materials are clearly specified and explained in your quote, so you know what is going on your roof and why. A structural assessment comes first, because a new roof is only as good as what it sits on.

New roof installation includes

  • Full pitched roof installation in tile and slate
  • Flat roof installation in EPDM and GRP
  • Structural assessment before installation
  • All materials clearly specified and explained
  • Residential and commercial new roofs
  • Free, no-obligation quotes on every new roof

Flat Roofing

Hampstead has more flat roof than people expect: rear extensions, dormers, garages, bay roofs and the flat sections behind the parapets of period houses. When a flat roof holds water, blisters or cracks, it rarely gets better on its own.

We repair flat roofs where a repair will last, and install new ones in EPDM rubber or GRP fibreglass where it will not. As with any roof, we show you the condition first so you can decide.

Flat roofing work

  • New EPDM rubber flat roofs
  • New GRP fibreglass flat roofs
  • Flat roof repairs and leak tracing
  • Dormer, extension and garage roofs

Lead Work and Chimney Repairs

Most leaks on older roofs start at a junction, not in the middle of a slope. Lead flashing seals the joints around chimneys, dormers, valleys and anything else that passes through the roof. When it splits or lifts, water follows.

We install, repair and replace lead flashing, and carry out pointing and chimney repairs. On Hampstead's Georgian and Victorian roofs this is often the most important work of all.

Lead and chimney work

  • Lead flashing installation, repair and replacement
  • Chimney flashings and back gutters
  • Lead valleys and dormer cheeks
  • Chimney repairs and pointing

FAQs / Roofing services

Roof Repair and Replacement Questions

More answers are on the Roofer Hampstead home page.

What usually causes a roof leak?

The most common causes are slipped or cracked tiles and slates, failed lead flashing around chimneys and dormers, perished felt beneath the tiles, blocked valleys and gutters, and worn flat roof coverings. The damp patch indoors is often some distance from the fault, which is why we trace the source before quoting.

Can a flat roof be repaired, or does it need replacing?

A local fault such as a split, a failed joint or damage around an outlet can often be repaired. If the covering is brittle or blistered across the whole roof, or water has got into the deck beneath, a new flat roof is usually the better use of your money. We show you the condition so you can see which applies.

Do I need scaffolding for a roof repair?

Not always. Some repairs can be reached safely from a ladder or a tower. Higher roofs, steep slopes and longer jobs need scaffolding so the work can be done safely and properly. If scaffolding is needed, it is shown as its own line in your written quote.

Will you show me the problem before any work starts?

Yes. That is how Roof HQ works. We photograph what we find, explain what it means and put the work in a written, itemised quote. You decide whether to go ahead.
